Foremost will be safety. We have to make sure make sure they are holding people accountable from a safety perspective, especially in The Body Shop. We've got a lot of robots and sharp metal, so lacerations could happen fast. Ensuring everyone is wearing proper PPE and setting manpower daily. Also, holding people accountable for attendance related items and quality and throughput related items. And then they're also responsible for managing the quality and rate coming out of their group. We have a daily target which is broken down to an hourly target and they're essentially graded on if they're making the rate or not and if they're not, what are they doing different to achieve rate hourly so that we can produce the number of units that we need. We try to put them in one group and keep them there. If attrition occurs, we could ask people to be potentially moved.
The people aspect in a union environment. It's a union environment, so they got to learn the different rules that go along with the contract and then addressing people. So that's probably the biggest hurdle along with just learning the daily process. I mean the group leader role is probably one of the harder positions in the whole company. So, they're required to do a lot of multitasking. They can't be focused on one item and let the rest of their area go and do pretty much fall apart.
Essentially achieving all the targets. Getting people home safe, making rate with quality. And you know, if we've got attendance issues, they're being held accountable within a time frame.
Safety being met and manpower. We provide feedback hourly. If something goes wrong, we are constantly out there giving feedback on what can be done differently. As group leaders are learning we expect them to figure it out on their own without given direction.
? Someone that has thick skin working in UAW environment and candidate will need to be coachable. Getting to know your team. You will manage 30 something people. At some point you will need from them and learning the jobs. You will need to be able to challenge them as the candidate will be tested.
Education Requirements: High school diploma and or GED.
Years of experience requirement: 2 years of manufacturing experience.
Top Skills:
• Manufacturing experience- Looking to see if they have union management, continuous improvement items, projects they have worked on previous roles. If someone has been bouncing around from one position to another, I will not consider them.
• Union Experience is a must!
• Mechanically Inclined- Someone who has previous automotive maintenance experience that is ok with supporting Production in the body shop.
